Critical Signals explores practical and visionary responses to an era of collapses, with a focus on kai sovereignty, data sovereignty, collective resilience, and adaptation strategies under a rapidly changing climate. With community at the project center, it asks what changes could we make to our infrastructure, food and energy systems to ensure we not just survive, but thrive, in the years ahead.
2025 was made possible through a lot of input from a heap of talented people, but the main weaver was Sophie Jerram. She did an amazing job, and the project would not exist without her.
Coming into 2026 the crew met to discuss the long-term vision of the project, and decided we wanted to restructure the project. We invested a lot in building governance and processes which would allow us to distribute decisions making + authoriy more effectively.
It was pretty challenging, and if I’m honest a bit painful, but I’m excited to see how it changes the course and longevity of this work.
This evolved from last years successful Beautiful Signals. A 3 months long community space hosted in Pōneke / Wellington in partnership with the Goethe Institute, several universities, and many community memebers.
I built and maintained the website in collaboration with infrastructure by nikau.io.
